
It was the unique diagnostic and surgical challenges of the urological patient that were responsible for Dr. Betrus’ decision to become an urologist. Dr. Betrus enjoys managing and treating the broad spectrum of urological conditions utilizing new technology to successfully manage his patients. Techniques such as laser therapy for prostate enlargement and brachytherapy for prostate cancer are among his diverse skills.
Dr. Betrus grew up in the metro Detroit area and attended Western Michigan University and subsequently Wayne State University School of Medicine. His urology residency included extensive training at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Dr. Betrus became the logical choice of Urology Associates of Port Huron when he joined Drs. Kamer and Coury in 1993.
The decision by Dr. Betrus to locate in Port Huron was blend of lifestyle and a quality medical community. In addition to raising 3 children and enjoying boating, fishing and tennis, Dr. Betrus is involved with youth sports and leadership at the local hospitals.
Dr. Betrus has served as department chair of surgery at Port Huron Hospital and is currently on the executive committee as Secretary-Treasurer. Through the efforts of Dr. Betrus and others, the residents of Port Huron and surrounding communities now have the Lakeshore Surgery Center where convenient state of the art procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis.
