For more than 30 years, Dr. Mertz has dedicated himself to providing his patients with the highest quality personalized care in the uniquely specialized and evolving field of urology.  Dr. Mertz’s philosophy is that quality health care is a hallmark of a quality community, but that the cornerstone upon which it is built begins with quality care – and the results – delivered to each individual patient.

As a member of the Grosse Pointe Urology, now a division of Comprehensive Medical Center PLLC, Dr. Mertz has been a champion of emerging technology.   Endourology, ultrasound, lithotripsy, laser surgery and laparoscopy with robotics have all been incorporated into his sophisticated community based practice.  Dr Mertz has recruited talented urologists to his urology group with unique skills that are necessary to maintain a state of the art urologic practice.

Comprehensive Medical Center and its 33 urologists now have a pathology lab dedicated to urology that assures the highest quality in diagnostic testing for its patients.  Reaching into the future, utilizing sophisticated genetic and molecular testing, Dr. Mertz and the urologists at Grosse Pointe Urology and CMC will apply this state of the art information enabling individualized management plans for its patients that ultimately may avoid major surgery.

Dr. Mertz's  medical interests include: minimally invasive treatment of prostate disorders (BPH) , urinary Stone disease, endourology – laser treatment of stones, lithotripsy, complex urinary stone management (risk assessment of kidney stone patients, medical management for prevention of kidney stones), evaluation of “PSA” abnormalities and vasectomy.
