Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve a penile erection that is firm enough and lasts long enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is estimated that 30 million American men have a degree of ED. This common problem is often associated with the following risk factors: hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, medication side effects, psychological stress, neurological disease, and cancer treatments including surgery or radiation therapy for prostate cancer.

Treatments include Viagra and medications of this same type (i.e., Levitra and Cialis). Although approximately 70 percent of ED patients respond to this form of treatment, many require other treatments such as vacuum erection devices, medications placed into the urethra or injected into the side of the penis, or less commonly psychological counseling. Penile prostheses are a highly satisfying method of treatment that can be placed with minimally invasive techniques using a one and a half inch incision.

Our doctors will evaluate and customize a treatment plan to achieve each patient’s goals of sexual activity.
