Overactive bladder (OAB)

This is a condition where either the bladder does not fill to adequate volumes, and/or spasms of the bladder occur. In either case, a patient may get frequent urges (sometimes sudden), and perhaps even urinary leakage. The management of this condition includes behavioral management (i.e., fluid intake) and sometimes medications to relax the bladder muscle. Surgery is rarely recommended for OAB alone. Many of these patients have concomitant benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
