Prostate Cancer
Over 186,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 (no other cancer is more prevalent) and over 28,000 deaths are expected, making it the second most lethal cancer in males. Death rates fortunately have been diminishing however since the advent of PSA screening in the late 1980s. Prostate cancer if discovered in the early stages is often highly curable, so we recommend screening men over the age of 50 or even earlier if the patient has a family history of the disease. Screening involves a PSA blood test and a finger rectal examination.
Comprehensive Urology has surgeons specially trained to fight cancer offering every currently available state-of-the-art treatment for prostate cancer:
A number of different clinical trials are available at William Beaumont Hospital as well. Ask your physician to see if you are eligible for these trials.
